The
Indian Premier League is the pet project of the financially powerful BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), which is primarily a response to the recent Essel Group venture, ICL (Indian Cricket League). It is a much awaited tournament that is based upon the much famed Twenty20 format of cricket, especially with the recent victory of India in the Twenty20 World Cup.
However, despite being associated with the BCCI, the Indian Premier League (IPL) would be considered as an independent entity. A separate governing council of Indian Premier League has been set up to look into its activities, and manage them efficiently. The officials of this council would include BCCI members along with some of the former cricketers as inclusive of Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri, who would be entitled to remuneration in lieu of their services. Amongst the BCCI officials would comprise its former President I. S. Bindra, vice-Presidents Rajiv Shukla, Chirayu Amin and Lalit Modi, Arun Jaitley.
